From Here to Eternity and the 26th Academy Awards
The Worthy boys head to a U.S. Army base in Hawaii to prepare for war in Fred Zinnemann’s ‘From Here to Eternity’! This episode of Worthy, we debate the progression of sex and relationships in Hollywood film and how the boundaries are slowly starting to expand. 'From Here to Eternity' is a war film not about war but about the men training for the war and their relationships outside of the Army base.
Ben and Jon discuss the film's wonderful use of real life locations and the wonderful lead performances by Clift, Sinatra, and Lancaster. Its achievement of eight Oscars matched the then record held by Gone with the Wind (1939). Sinatra steals the heart of the film but is this a Worthy Supporting performance?
Is 'From Here to Eternity' worthy of the Best Picture award of 1953? Tell us how we’re wrong at worthysubmissions@gmail.com
